New year, new opportunities... new injuries

Not quite the way I expected to end the first month of 2020: with my arm in a sling, no car on the driveway and signed off work for six weeks.

After starting my new job working at a stables at the beginning of the year, I was feeling really optimistic about starting a career working with horses.

Although my little accident has slightly put a damper on things, I'm not going to let it set me back. I'm going to have to be careful about not diving back in head first too quickly, but this has definitely given me the perspective that while I need to get on and do things, it's also important to make sure that I'm not overdoing it and overwhelming myself. Plus, having a whole month sitting around doing nothing definitely seems like the perfect opportunity to get myself sorted. I want to look in to getting some equine behaviour qualifications, as well as maybe some other more general BHS qualifications, possibly even looking in to teaching. And once I'm feeling fitter I definitely need to get back riding myself - I have been out of the saddle for too long!

I'm hoping to keep a bit of a record of my journey as I learn new things and develop things I already know. Although I have been riding and looking after horses practically my whole life, I hope this will be a bit of a different venture, and lead to lots of exciting things. Finally uniting my psychology degrees with my passion for ponies feels like something I should have been doing all along, but it's never too late to start.
